Summer has officially arrived in Martin County, which means lazy beach days and soaking in the sunny rays. As temperatures start to soar, here are some of our favorite ways to stay cool and beat the heat. Just don’t forget to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water, wear weather-appropriate clothing, and make sure to re-apply that SPF!
#1 Hit the Beach
One of the most popular summer day activities is heading to the beach. Martin County serves up more than 22 miles of beautiful beaches that stay surprisingly uncrowded (thanks to a county-wide, four-story height restriction and our under-the-radar charm). And with a diverse combination of guarded beaches with trained lifeguards plus plenty of hidden stretches of golden sand, there’s really something for every type of beach-lover to appreciate. Even better, our beaches are open 24/7, offer free parking, are alcohol-friendly (for our 21+ visitors), and many of our beaches allow leashed dogs! Whether bringing your own beach umbrella from home or renting gear from a local provider, we’ve got you covered. Learn more about our beautiful beaches.
#2 Immerse Yourself in Underwater Wonders
Martin County may be best known for our uncrowded beaches, but what lies beneath the water’s surface is just as exciting. Contact one of our local diving experts, such as Kirk’s Dive & Surf, Stuart Scuba, or Deep Six Dive & Watersports, to plan an incredible underwater experience. Swim through warm waters to witness our coral reefs, diverse marine life, and learn more about historic sites, like the Georges Saint Valentine shipwreck, located just off the coast of the House of Refuge. Who knows – lucky divers may even find some buried treasure along this stretch of Florida’s Treasure Coast!
#3 Splash the Day Away at Sailfish Splash Waterpark
Looking for a way to escape the heat that’ll keep the youngsters entertained for hours on end? Then head on over to Martin County’s very own Sailfish Splash Waterpark! Let the kids float around the 1000-foot Lazy River; splash safely in the 7,326-square foot water playground; or get their hearts racing as they shoot down the 253-foot closed flume Speed Slide! Even better, TimeOut Magazine recently named Sailfish Splash one of the best waterparks in Florida!
#4 Reel in the Memories During a Deep-Sea Fishing Excursion
There’s something so thrilling yet rejuvenating about spending the day casting a line out on the open water. With a multitude of local charter captains and fishing instructors, our world-class fishing experiences can’t be missed during a Martin County vacation. Expert guides from companies like The Fighting Lady Sportfishing Charters, Chaos Fishing Adventures, and Lady Stuart I Deep Sea Fishing are Martin County locals that will hook you up – literally! Take an exhilarating boat ride up and down our gorgeous waterways, catch a glimpse of a dolphin or two, and come home with an impressive catch.
#5 Explore One of Our Awesome Indoor Attractions
Even though Martin County is teeming with eco-adventures and aquatic activities, we won’t blame you if you want to keep close to the A/C! Luckily, there’s no shortage of indoor attractions in Martin County. No matter what you’re interested in, you’re bound to find the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Explore the new Ocean EcoCenter at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, or marvel at the antique automobiles and other fascinating exhibits at the Elliott Museum. Kids can play for hours on end at the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast, nestled in beautiful Indian Riverside Park. Or take a drive over to the Hobe Sound Nature Center to meet a bunch of local critters and learn more about our area’s unique ecology. Plus, we have plenty of amazing restaurants, awesome boutiques, and countless museums, galleries, and other cultural attractions to explore.
