The Stuart Single Fin Showdown revolves around surfing, but it’s really about charity and giving back to the community.
What started in 2009 with a small group of surfers riding vintage single fin surfboards for bragging rights has now evolved into one of the largest one-day amateur surf and skim festivals in Florida, annually attracting more than 125 competitors and hundreds of spectators.
Competitors must ride a vintage single fin provided to them at random before each heat. The contest has become so popular that through the years more divisions such as a Skim Boarding contest sponsored by SHORE lB and standup paddle boarding have been added, but the single fin and longboard divisions remain the most popular.
Eastern Surfing Magazine, a major surfing publication that covers the East Coast surf scene (from Texas to Maine) has acknowledged that the Showdown is now one of the largest one-day amateur surf and skim festivals in Florida, attracting more than 125 competitors and hundreds of spectators annually.
