A.C.T. Studio Theatre opens the new year with the romantic comedy “Italian American Reconciliation” by John Patrick Shanley, the Academy-award-winning screenwriter of the hit movie “Moonstruck.” Set in New York City’s Little Italy, this modern-day folktale is about love, family, friendship, and second chances.
The story revolves around lovelorn Huey Maximilian Bonfigliano, who finds himself in unbearable misery three years after his divorce. Even though he has a nice girlfriend, Huey comes up with a crazy scheme to win back his ex-wife who he misses so much that his food has no taste. Turns out that the emotionally sensitive Huey doesn’t have a clue about how best to carry on with women. But you can count on plenty of humor and compassion as the story unfolds.
The play’s tender romantic theme about how love can drive people crazy is both infectious and disarmingly charming. Joe Russo directed A.C.T.’s January performances of “Italian American Reconciliation.” The play stars Kevin Korman as lovelorn Huey, Patrick Price as best friend Aldo, Hillary Dawson as girlfriend Teresa, Ellen Gillette as Aunt May, and Aria Gmitter as ex-wife Janice.
With familiar themes from Mr. Shanley’s movie “Moonstruck,” “Italian American Reconciliation” will entertain audiences at A.C.T. Studio Theatre weekends Jan. 10 – 26. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For tickets and information, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Tickets are $26. A.C.T.
