Presenter: Marie Kennedy
Join Marie Kennedy as she shares the remarkable story of how the House of Refuge was saved from demolition and became the treasured museum we know today.
In the 1950s, the historic House of Refuge faced an uncertain future. Thanks to the vision, determination, and dedication of the Soroptimist International of Stuart, this beloved landmark was saved and established as a museum. The Soroptimists also played an instrumental role in the formation of the Martin County Historical Society, helping ensure that the House and its extraordinary history would be preserved for generations to come.
Discover the inspiring story of the women and community members who recognized the importance of preserving this historic landmark—and how their efforts helped save Florida’s last remaining House of Refuge.
