Children’s Program led by the Martin County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (in collaboration with the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center!)
Time:
9:30 am - 11:00 am
Free
Nurturing a sense of wonder, joy, and genuine connection with the natural world, the Martin County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society’s (MCFNPS) Children’s Program will help children and youth explore the native plants and wild places that make Florida unique. Each month, we invite learning and observation in real habitats, growing curiosity, confidence, and a lasting love for the land. When children and youth connect with nature, they naturally become its stewards.
Program Ages (Child-led):
• Ages 0–4: Sensory play and nature walk with caregivers.
• Ages 5–12: Child-led nature playgroup and habitat exploration.
• Ages 13–17: Mentorship and deeper environmental learning.
March’s event will be hosted at the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center (TCWC), a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation facility in Palm City, which has over 3,200 sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife intakes every year. TCWC is on 297 acres of preserve and conservation easement, and our Children’s Program will take place in a pine flatwoods natural area adjacent to the wildlife hospital.
Following the program, there will be an opportunity for children and their guardians to take part in a guided tour led by TCWC’s Environmental Education Coordinator, beginning at 11:30 AM, for interested participants following the Children’s Program ($10 per adult).
What to Bring:
Please come prepared for a comfortable morning outdoors. Bring lots of water to stay hydrated and
hats for sun protection. A small towel, blanket, or portable seat can make sitting amongst pine needles
and sand more enjoyable. Loose long sleeves and long pants are often recommended to help guard
from sun exposure and insects. If you prefer shorts, consider bringing bug spray instead. Closed-toe shoes
are best for walking on natural trails, but bare feet are allowed. Most importantly (other than water!),
bring your spirit of observation and inquiry!
Note that a signed liability waiver is required for participation. The physical form will be available
to sign upon arrival. The program is limited to children and youth between the ages of 6 months and 17 years of age and their guardians. The program is child-led, but indirect supervision is required.
Please RSVP to Amaris Mokhortov (TCWC Education Coordinator & MCFNPS Vice President) at [email protected] to confirm your attendance and recieve further meeting details, with any
questions or comments, especially if you’d like to share a bit about your child and
their interests. Your insight helps to create the most meaningful experience for each
participant!
