The Nature Conservancy’s Blowing Rocks Preserve

Blowing Rocks Preserve was named for its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline. At high tide when the sea is rough, waves break against the rocks and force plumes of saltwater high in the air. This peaceful 73-acre nature preserve is home to Southeast Florida habitats that are disappearing fast from many barrier islands. Three hiking trails and boardwalks, each up to 1/3 mile long, invite you to experience native mangrove, beach dune, and maritime hammock forest habitats. The preserve’s Hawley Education Center provides an opportunity to learn about The Nature Conservancy’s efforts to protect native habitats, plants, and animals in Florida and around the world. Enhance your visit by submitting photos towards iNaturalist or the Chronolog Station, help remove marine debris using the Beach Bucket Station, and explore the preserve through interactive augmented reality missions on the Agents of Discovery app!

Blowing Rocks Preserve is one of four campus preserves under TNC in Florida’s Center for Conservation Initiatives, advancing conservation through education and training, outreach and volunteerism, science and research, and land stewardship. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive. Founded in the U.S. through grassroots action in 1951, TNC has grown to become one of the most effective and wide-reaching environmental organizations in the world. Thanks to more than a million members and the dedicated efforts of our diverse staff and over 400 scientists, we impact conservation in 81 countries and territories.
