The Martin County Office of Tourism & Marketing is absolutely thrilled to unveil a brand-new partnership with Wheel the World, a revolutionary travel solution designed specifically for people with disabilities.
We’re all about making Martin County a destination where everyone can create unforgettable memories, regardless of their abilities. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Wheel the World, a cutting-edge platform that empowers travelers to explore destinations with confidence, knowing that their accessibility needs will be met every step of the way.
This pioneering partnership was achieved through a VISIT FLORIDA cooperative marketing program, with Martin County being one of 20 Florida destinations to join the program.
So, what exactly does this partnership entail? The Wheel the World team recently ventured to our little slice of paradise in order to conduct a comprehensive destination audit. They left no stone unturned, meticulously assessing over 30 points of interest, including a broad array of local hotels, restaurants, boutiques, parks, and attractions.
Their proprietary assessment dives deep into approximately 200 data points, covering mobility-related, sensorial (auditory and visual), and cognitive disabilities. It’s all about ensuring that every traveler feels not just welcomed, but truly informed with vital information as they plan their visit.
As part of this dynamic partnership, Wheel the World has developed custom listings exclusively for Martin County and our 30+ sites on their platform. That means potential visitors can browse and book hotel stays and experiences directly, with full confidence in their accessibility features. Plus, their team offers invaluable online training and certification programs, along with fantastic promotional opportunities through social media and public relations efforts.
Wheel the World isn’t just a travel platform – it’s a movement. With relationships spanning over 250 destinations across 50 countries worldwide, they’re leading the charge for accessible travel on a global scale. And now, Martin County is proudly part of that movement, championing inclusivity and empowerment for travelers of all abilities.
“We all have different needs when it comes to accessibility, and planning for a trip can pose unique challenges for travelers with disabilities – especially when there is a lack of vital information,” said Nerissa Okiye, Martin County Tourism Director. “Our new partnership with Wheel the World empowers potential visitors with a wealth of knowledge about our local points of interest so they can book with confidence. Our team remains dedicated to promoting inclusive travel practices and making Martin County an even more accessible destination for visitors.”
Another recent accessibility partnership includes our collaboration with Aira App. This cutting-edge technology assists individuals who are blind or have low vision. Through the free app, visitors can access trained Visual Interpreters who will help people navigate Martin County’s buildings, attractions, exhibits, restaurants, hotels, and so much more. They can even provide remote trip planning services to our area.
