Designated Trail Towns

Run by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Trail Town program highlights towns throughout the state that are directly connected to multi-use, regional trails. Florida’s Trail Towns provide safe recreation opportunities, boost the local economy, and offer alternative sustainable transportation options. Stuart

Designated as a Trail Town in August 2026, Stuart is the perfect place to begin your trail exploration! With the East Coast Greenway routed directly through downtown, the trail seamlessly connects you to multiple shopping, lodging, and restaurant options. Surrounded by the waters of the St Lucie River, you will also experience the natural beauty of Stuart along the Greenway. Stuart also features multiple places to launch a kayak or paddleboard to explore the water-based Blueway Paddle Trail. No matter what adventure you are looking for, Stuart’s regional trails prove that you can combine active recreation with downtown charm!

Port Salerno

Looking for Old Florida charm? Find it in Port Salerno! Established as a Trail Town in August 2026, Port Salerno is a working fishing village located around the picturesque Manatee Pocket bay. It’s quaint downtown features fresh seafood restaurants, fishing charters, art galleries, and much more, all accessible by the East Coast Greenway and Blueway Paddle Trail. These regional trails not only connect you directly to town, but to multiple scenic parks and preserves, such as Seabranch Preserve State Park. Whether traveling by foot, bike, or paddle craft, Port Salerno is the perfect stop for a memorable and unique Trail Town experience!

Green River Parkway

Marking the beginning of the East Coast Greenway, this section borders Savannas Preserve State Park, offering amazing views of nature and opportunities to spot wildlife.

With a short detour, you can enter the state park along Jensen Beach Boulevard, or continue along the greenway towards downtown Stuart!

Dixie Highway

Beginning just south of downtown Port Salerno, this section of the East Coast Greenway takes you inside Seabranch Preserve State Park.

Away from the road, this section is peaceful and scenic, and if you’re lucky, you might spot one of the resident gopher tortoises!

South Fork of the St Lucie River

Beginning at Hosford Park, just a few miles outside of downtown Stuart, the paddle trail along the South Fork of the St Lucie River will immediately transport you to Old Florida!

The trail is surrounded by a beautiful hammock forest, with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife such as alligators, turtles, and birds.

Paddle the entire route to the campground at Halpatiokee Park, or do a more leisurely route to Treasure Island, the perfect halfway stop to relax or have a picnic!

St Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park Loop

This paddle trail is the perfect way to explore St Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park! As you paddle through the dense mangrove forest, you will likely spot unique wildlife such as juvenile sea turtles and sting rays. Or, take a break along the way to walk along park’s pristine beach, where you are likely to be the only one there!
