Originally established as a Seminole trading post, the city of Indiantown has been providing rest and respite to locals and travelers alike since the 1890’s. Once planned to be the southern hub of the Seaboard rail line, Indiantown is now home to several surprising attractions.
Impressive Flora at Barley Barber Swamp
This 450-acre parcel of land is home to a wide array of plants – including one of the oldest bald cypress trees in the nature southeastern United States! The tree is estimated at over 1,000 years old, stands 88 feet tall and has a circumference of 33 feet. Barley Barber Swamp visitors may also spot Florida strangler figs, swamp maples and pond apples.
Unique Landscapes at Dupuis Reserve
Located along the northeastern edge of the Everglades, Dupuis Reserve offers 15 miles of walking trails that meander through a variety of landscapes including pine flatwoods, ponds, cypress domes, wet prairies and cabbage palm hammocks.
Award-Winning Track at Payson Park
Originally built in the 1950’s, Payton Park has been training award-winning horses for over 60 years. This Indiantown institution offers one of the top three dirt tracks in the country, European-style galloping trails, 21 barns and much more. Veteran equestrians will love this slice of equine paradise hidden away in Old Florida.
Rare Animals at Allapattah Flats
Located only 15 miles west of Stuart, the Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Area is home to a large selection of unique animals. Animal lovers can spot sandhill cranes, wood storks, crested caracaras, white-tailed deer, wild turkey and an array of wading birds while hiking the untouched natural landscape.
