A farm, a restaurant, a community space, an educational experience, a local market and a passionate example of love of the earth, Ground Floor Farm is Martin County’s own urban farm. Full of “food, art, and fun,” the farm is founded upon a love for and connection to food, as well as a mission to inspire others to have that same love. Manager Micah Hartman says that it is “important that food is the tie that binds us all” and that the farm is meant to “engage people” through conspicuous farming and an abundance of community activities.
With a desire to bind the community together with a breath of fresh air, Ground Floor Farm offers a range of different activities throughout the year, from intense education for experienced farmers to kids’ summer camps and field trips. Throughout their peak season, October through May, Ground Floor Farm hosts many homespun events including December’s Holiday Night and a weekly green market with local artisans. Hartman says that the farm provides “lots of different levels to offer the community.” Throughout the year, they offer workshops in all things farming, cooking, baking, cheese-making and even fermenting. Sign up for any of these classes and hone your skills or check their calendar at http://www.groundfloorfarm.com/calendar/ for all their great events to incorporate into planning your next trip to Martin County.
Ground Floor Farm’s most delicious attribute is its wholly natural and fresh kitchen and restaurant. Their menu revolves around what is grown on the farm, which guests can gaze out at as they eat their meals in the farm’s main space or shaded porch. With vintage and artsy vibes, the food is served by the friendliest of staff, all passionate about the farm’s purpose, and you will enjoy every bite of their superb offerings. Their top dish is the Glory Bowl, featuring their “glorious” tahini dressing and fresh greens picked right from the backyard. Hartman describes the food as “farmer food,” and it has truly gone beyond its rustic roots to deliver scrumptious and sophisticated “vegetable driven” dishes. Ground Floor Farm offers a “restaurant that has interesting and thoughtful food that’s really nourishing.”
