A.C.T. Studio Theatre presents Celebrating Martin County: 100 Years
Aug 16 - Aug 17

Join A.C.T. in celebrating the Martin County Centennial!  A.C.T. Studio Theater is the only theatre presenting a show dedicated to the history of our beautiful Martin County on its 100th birthday.  History will come alive on the A.C.T. stage with notable characters from Martin County’s fascinating and eclectic past. Watch vignettes and listen to songs and poems of our rich history – filled with adventurers, pioneers, pirates, scoundrels and movie stars.

Martin County was incorporated on August 5, 1925 from parts of northern Palm Beach County and southern St. Lucie County.  The county is named after John Wellborn Martin who served as the 24th Governor of Florida from 1925 to 1929.  You can probably guess the historic role of Homer Hine (Jack) Stuart, Jr.  But did you know that Gilbert’s Bar House of Refuge is named after a pirate?

You’ll enjoy learning about some of the original pillars of our community–and some shady characters as well.  The roster of historical figures in A.C.T.’s presentations will include Harmon Elliott, Frances Langford, Gilbert the Pirate, Laura Upthegrove, Bill McCoy, Abbie Sewall, Susan Bessey and others.  We will also welcome an exceptional “special guest” from the county seat who will add to the show’s spirit and authenticity.

Join us to commemorate this historic milestone and learn more about the county we call home.  A.C.T. Studio Theatre’s salute to Martin County will be presented on stage Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 17 at 3:00 p.m.  For tickets and information, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880.  Tickets are $28; please call for student and children’s discounts.  A.C.T. Studio Theatre is located in the Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart.
