Earth Day 2026, observed on Wednesday, April 22, is a time to reflect on our connection to the natural world and take action to protect it. This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.”
In Martin County, caring for the environment isn’t just a one-day commitment. It’s a way of life, woven into our landscapes, our experiences, and our community. And this year, the Martin County Office of Tourism & Marketing and Explore Natural Martin program are participating in the City Nature Challenge, inviting residents and visitors to join in.
From hands-on events to immersive outdoor adventures, there are plenty of meaningful ways to celebrate Earth Day on the Treasure Coast. Here are some ideas to get you started!
Participate in Local Earth Day Events
Earth Fest at The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast
Join an engaging event featuring interactive activities designed to educate children and families about environmental care. The celebration runs from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on April 11 at the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast.
Earth Day Celebration at Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center
Explore native plants, local wildlife, and hands-on environmental activities like crafts, educational exhibits, and close-up animal experiences along with the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center. designed to inspire all ages. Activities will take place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on April 22. Find additional details here.
Join an Earth Day Paint and Sip
Celebrate Earth Day surrounded by nature, with creativity, good company, and a refreshing outdoor setting at our Earth Day Paint & Sip! The event kicks off at KC Trails South Trailhead Pavilion on April 22 at 6:30 PM. Get the details here.
Earth Day at Possum Long Nature Center
Enjoy a serene stroll through the nature center and receive a complimentary basil “wee planter” to cultivate at home. The event is scheduled from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on April 22. Learn more at Audubon of Martin County.
Sweeping the Streets with Stuart Main Street
Get involved with keeping Stuart clean and beautiful during Stuart Main Street’s annual Sweeping the Streets downtown cleanup event! Register online and volunteers will receive supplies and assignments on April 25 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Join the City Nature Challenge (April 24–27)
This year, Martin County is participating in the global City Nature Challenge for the very first time – and you’re invited to be part of it!
Run by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, this international event encourages people around the world to document local biodiversity using the iNaturalist app. You can find more information about our specific project linked here.
Here’s how to participate:
- Explore anywhere in Martin County between April 24–27
- Snap photos of plants, animals, or insects you encounter
- Upload your observations using iNaturalist (just make sure location services are turned on!)
That’s it! Your entries will automatically count toward the “2026 City Nature Challenge: Martin County” project. No additional sign-up required.
It’s a fun, easy way to contribute to real scientific research while seeing your surroundings in a whole new way. Results will be announced in the June Explore Natural Martin newsletter!

Discover Martin County’s diverse ecosystems through activities like kayaking, hiking, and birdwatching. Our award-winning Explore Natural Martin program promotes responsible tourism and offers resources for planning your eco-adventures. These programs are free, available to both locals and visitors, and activities change throughout the year (so there’s always something new to experience)!
Participate in Community Clean-Ups
Join initiatives like the Great American Cleanup, organized by Keep Martin Beautiful, to help maintain the county’s natural beauty. These events occur from March through June and provide supplies for volunteers.
Support Local Farmers Markets
Reduce your carbon footprint by purchasing fresh produce from local markets such as Barbour’s Produce in Jensen Beach and the Farm Market at Kai-Kai Farm in Indiantown. We also have the weekly Market on Main (organized by Stuart Main Street), the Hobe Sound Farmer’s Market, the Market at Newfield Farm, and more!
Adopt Sustainable Practices
Make simple changes like using refillable water bottles and biking instead of driving to contribute to environmental conservation.
