DESCRIPTION:One of the most outstanding instrumentalists in rock over the past 40 years\, Texas guitarist Eric Johnson was already a legend before he recorded his first album. By the early 1980s\, many celebrated guitarists were singing the praises of this skinny kid from Austin with the mind-melting chops. Comparisons were made to such guitar heroes as Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix and when he joined the ‘70s Austin fusion band Electromagnets they were being hailed as “the Mahavishnu Orchestra of Texas”. With the release of his highly-anticipated 1986 solo debut album Tones\, the underground guitar legend finally emerged onto the scene fully-formed. It landed him on the cover of Guitar Player magazine\, which hailed the album as a “majestic debut”\, and earned him his first Grammy nomination for the song “Zap”. With the release of his follow up album\, 1990’s platinum-selling Ah Via Musicom\, which contained the Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”\, Eric Johnson became a bona fide international guitar phenomenon. \nThe New Age Music Guide once opined that “Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings: with a colorful vibrancy that’s more real than life” while Rolling Stone included him in their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 21st century. A dynamic singer as well as an incredibly gifted guitarist\, a pianist and a prolific songwriter\, Eric has been featured on the cover of countless guitar magazines around the world while also racking up critical accolades along the way. \nSince 1986 Eric has released seventeen albums\, in addition to albums with other artists such as Eclectic with jazz guitarist Mike Stern\, and the platinum-selling G3 Live with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Eric has received eight Grammy nominations along with numerous other recognitions\, awards and wins in various polls and magazines. Among Johnson’s many accolades are a GRAMMY award in 1992 for “Cliffs of Dover” as Best Rock Instrumental Performance\, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats\, and his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician magazine. In his hometown of Austin Texas\, a city full of guitarists\, the readers of the Austin Chronicle voted Eric Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade”. In February 2024 Eric was honored with induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association Hall of Fame. \n2023 found Eric on his ‘Treasure Tour’\, 67 US dates that were split between a Spring and a Fall tour. In January and February 2024 Eric joined the ‘G3 Reunion Tour’ with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai\, and the resulting new live album from the tour will be released in January 2025. In August 2024 he heads out for a run of dates in the north and northeast including the Backroads Blues Festival in New York. In September and October 2024 Eric was a featured performer on the ‘Experience Hendrix 2024 Tour’\, crossing the country from Washington state to Florida\, and then rejoined in March and April 2025 for the ‘Experience Hendrix 2025 Tour’ throughout the east and northeast USA and Canada. \nOver the course of more than four decades\, Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey. Along the way\, his creations have cross-pollinated the various musical genres which include rock\, blues\, jazz\, fusion\, soul\, folk\, new-age\, classical\, and even country. Inevitably EJ says it best himself in sharing that regardless of the genre “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day”\, he explains. “The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project”.

Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis bursts with color and energy\, reimagining Weber’s charming four-hand parlor pieces as an orchestral tour de force. In the spirit of musical evolution\, pianist Tao Lin and Maestro Amado will present selections from Weber’s original piano works\, illuminating Hindemith’s ingenious craft.

DESCRIPTION:For 50 years\, Charlie Musselwhite has toured\, performed\, and recorded. He is living proof that great music only gets better with age: he is a 33-time Blues Music Award winner\, many-times Living Blues Award winner\, 13-time Grammy nominee\, 2014 Grammy winner for Get Up with Ben Harper\, and 2019 Grammy nominee for No Mercy in this Land\, also with Ben Harper. In 2020\, he joined with his friend Elvin Bishop and released the Grammy-nominated\, Blues Music Award-winning 100 Years of Blues. It debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Chart and Downbeat named it the Best Blues Album of the Year. In addition to his own albums\, Musselwhite has been featured on recordings by Tom Waits\, Eddy Vedder\, John Lee Hooker\, Bonnie Raitt\, The Blind Boys of Alabama\, and Cyndi Lauper. He was inducted into the Blues Foundation’s Blues Hall of Fame in 2010. \nJoining Charlie at The Lyric Theatre is four-time Grammy nominated artist\, Bob Welsh. Hailing from Covington\, La.\, Bob moved to the Bay Area in his late teens\, where he’s been part of the roots music scene for twenty-five years. He started out in the Rusty Zinn band\, and from there has backed up & toured with multiple luminaries all over the world\, including Charlie Musselwhite\, Kim Wilson\, John Nemeth\, Mark Hummel\, Eric Lindell\, Ren Geisick\, Aireene Espiritu\, Roy Gaines\, Snooky Pryor\, Pinetop Perkins\, Billy Boy Arnold\, Lazy Lester\, James Harman\, James Cotton\, Aki Kumar and many others. \nCharlie Musselwhite’s story is a classic blues song come to life. Born in Kosciusko\, Mississippi\, he was raised by a single mother who moved the family to Memphis when he was a child. He grew up surrounded by blues\, hillbilly\, and gospel music that he heard on the radio or from neighborhood musicians. As a teen\, he worked as a ditch digger\, concrete layer\, and moonshine runner. Fascinated by the blues\, Charlie Musselwhite began playing the guitar and harmonica. He crossed paths with local musicians including Elvis Presley\, Johnny Cash\, and Johnny Burnette\, but the musicians he sought out were veteran Memphis bluesmen like Furry Lewis\, Will Shade\, and Gus Cannon. \nIn the early 1960s\, Charlie Musselwhite moved to Chicago\, looking for better-paying work. While driving an exterminator’s truck by day\, he hung out in the city’s South Side blues clubs at night. He befriended blues harmonica player Big Walter Horton and became especially close to venerated country bluesman Big Joe Williams. His other friends included blues icons Little Walter\, Sonny Boy Williamson\, and Howlin’ Wolf\, and he soaked up licks\, lyrics\, and life lessons whenever he could. Before long\, he was sitting in clubs with Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed\, building an impressive word-of-mouth reputation. In 1966\, at the age of 22\, he recorded the landmark Stand Back! to rave reviews. In 1967\, he moved to San Francisco\, where his album was being played on underground radio. He was welcomed into the counterculture scene around the Fillmore West as someone who played the “real deal” blues. \nNow\, Musselwhite has released Mississippi Son\, an album that takes him full circle\, back to Mississippi from all the points in between. It is a compilation of the wisdom and lessons he’s learned through his decades of worldwide touring. “Blues tells the truth in a world that’s full of lies\,” he says in “Blues Gave Me a Ride.” Through his evocative vocals\, masterful harmonica playing\, and note-perfect country blues guitar\, Charlie Musselwhite delivers “blues’ honest truth.” \nCharlie Musselwhite\, more than any other harmonica player of his generation\, can rightfully lay claim to inheriting the mantle of the great harp players who came before. In an era when the term legendary gets applied to auto-tuned pop stars\, this singular blues harp player\, singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist has earned and deserves to be honored as a true master of American classic vernacular music. He is at the top of his game\, a revered elder statesman of the blues\, nowhere near ready to hang up his harps. His depth of expression as a singer and an instrumentalist is unparalleled and only growing deeper. \nWithout American music\, there is no Charlie Musselwhite. DESCRIPTION:Mark Maynard went to the source when he wanted a blessing to perform a Frankie Valli tribute. He arranged to meet Valli after a 1993 show at the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and sang a few classic tunes for the legendary singer. Maynard received Valli’s approval and encouragement to perform a tribute show; he has been reminding people of the genius of Valli ever since. \nFrancesco Stephen Castelluccio was born in New Jersey some 90 years ago. Armed with his signature falsetto\, he and the Four Seasons had 29 Top 40 hits\, including “Sherry\,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry\,” “Rag Doll\,” and “Walk Like a Man.” He also had nine hits as a solo artist. His life and career were told in the hit Broadway musical Jersey Boys and gave Maynard a wealth of material from which to draw. A long-time member of the “Legends in Concert“ series\, the tribute artist knows what his audiences want. \nIn his new multi-media show Jersey to Broadway\, Maynard is the epitome of Frankie Valli\, with an uncanny impersonation of Valli’s falsetto and a non-stop parade of hits. They are joined by Nigel Hall (Lettuce) on Hammond organ\, Pedro Segundo (Ronnie Scott’s All Stars) on percussion\, Xavier Lynn (MonoNeon\, Ledisi) on guitar\, and an all-star horn section of Aaron Narcisse (Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra)\, Charlie Halloran (Squirrel Nut Zippers\, Preservation Hall All Stars) and Jason Mingledorff (Galactic). \n“Sophisticated\, nasty\, good-time\, low-down funk is the folk music of New Orleans\,” Cleary says. “Everyone playing on this recording is a New Orleanian by birth or by choice\, having learned their craft at the feet of the masters who in turn were taught by the old lions in their day – it’s a tradition stretching back over two hundred years. The roots go deep\, but each generation\, growing up with street parades and second-lines\, absorbs the old and introduces the new\, gently coaxing the essential essence into and out of each succeeding decade.” \nIt’s an apt description of Cleary’s career thus far. Born in London and on a plane to New Orleans before he turned twenty years old\, he grew up absorbed by the sounds and rhythms of the Crescent City. His mastery of the city’s music landed him gigs playing as a session musician in the bands of local legends Earl King\, Johnny Adams\, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington\, Snooks Eaglin\, Ernie K-Doe\, Jessie Hill– and as a guitarist for Dr. John. He later toured extensively with icons like Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal. His solo career began in earnest in 1989 and includes beloved records like their self-titled band debut and his 2015 Grammy winner\, Go-Go Juice. \nIn fact\, his first job in New Orleans was as a painter at beloved local club the Maple Leaf Bar\, and it wasn’t long until he was playing piano in that very room. To this day\, he and his band continue to pack that room to crowds that gather from around the world\, playing their unique and ever-evolving take on New Orleans funk and R&B. \n“These grooves are not museum pieces\, they are alive\, breathing and fresh – and that’s why joints like Tipitina’s\, The Maple Leaf Bar and Chickie Wah Wah are always packed when the locals\, young and old\, come out to hear the Gentlemen do they thang\,” Cleary proudly adds. \nOn The Bywater Sessions\, the band that Rolling Stone’s David Fricke called “as broad\, deep and rolling as the Mississippi river” is finally captured as intended– live\, in the room and as funky as ever. SUMMARY:The Weight Band – Featuring members of The Band and the Levon Helm Band
DESCRIPTION:The Band was one of the most important roots rock groups of the 1960s. The influential group\, which included Levon Helm\, Rick Danko\, Garth Hudson\, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson\, began in Canada and then migrated to the U.S. It was the subject of a Martin Scorsese documentary The Last Waltz. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2004\, Rolling Stone ranked The Band 50 on the list of 100 greatest artists and the song “The Weight” was ranked 41st on the magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs. It is a storied history. \nLevon Helm died in 2012 after a lengthy battle with throat cancer that kept him from performing for many years. In 2013\, in the Woodstock barn Levon Helm loved\, Jim Weider and Randy Ciarlante\, both former members of The Band\, performed “Songs of the Band” with founder Garth Hudson\, Jimmy Vivino and Byron Isaacs. \nThe experience inspired Weider\, Ciarlante and Isaacs to carry on The Band’s legacy and they began performing fan favorites. They invited Brian Mitchell and later added Albert Rogers\, Michael Bram and Matt Zeiner to join them. “We started doing some songs and people got excited\,” Weider said. “We put The Weight Band together and people were so happy to hear the songs again. Then we wanted to do an original album.”\nIn 2018\, they released an album of original material\, World Gone Mad\, that captured The Band’s musical tradition but was put together for today’s vibrant Americana base. The album is an Americana/Roots Rock tribute to the music and the Woodstock sound. Goldmine magazine called it “one of the year’s best indie albums.” \nThe group’s 2022 album Shines Like Gold drew on roadhouse rock\, funky swamp pop\, blues\, country soul and folk music. It was recorded live at Clubhouse Studios in Rhinebeck\, New York\, over four days during the height of the pandemic. The band looked at our troubled world\, pondered the passage of time\, and ultimately conveyed a sense of hopefulness for the future. “There’s a new dawn rising\,” they proclaimed on the title track\, “and it shines like gold.” \nThe Weight Band is composed of band leader\, renowned guitarist Jim Weider (The Band\, Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band\, Jim Weider Band)\, keyboardist Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band)\, bassist Albert Rogers (Jim Weider Band\, Jimmy Vivino)\, drummer Michael Bram (Jason Mraz) and keyboardist Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts). The veteran quintet shares a deep appreciation and knowledge for the music they play\, which Weider describes as the “Woodstock Sound.” The Weight Band continues to serve as its torchbearer with Shines Like Gold representing a sublime example of these masterful roots musicians at work. \nChoosing the name of the band was an homage to the legendary song they made so famous. “’The Weight’ will be a song in spaceships on the moon\,” Weider said. “It’s a classic song that defined American culture at the time and still does. The Band was the beginning of Americana. They were the first Americana band and they cross-pollinated all the music and put it in a big pot.” \nReplicating the music of the Band would be a tall order\, but interpreting it is an art. The songs The Band created have pleased audiences for decades\, and The Weight Band has found a way to honor the legacy while creating its own sound with original works that complement that legacy. \nTake a load off and come hear the music that defined an era.

DESCRIPTION:Their music is the soundtrack of so many lives. James Taylor\, Carly Simon\, and Carole King had so many hit songs that it’s hard to keep track of them all. James Taylor is a six-time Grammy winner\, Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famer Carly Simon had 13 Top 40 hits\, and Carole King wrote or co-wrote 118 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Their personal and professional lives intertwine with songs like “Mockingbird”\, “You’re So Vain”\, “Anticipation”\, and “You’ve Got a Friend”\, and their music and lives are celebrated by three performers with their own impressive resumes. \nLisa Sherman spent 11 years on and off Broadway as a singer\, actress\, and dancer\, and shared the stage with the Radio City Rockettes for four years. She has performed and headlined at the Apollo Theatre\, The Algonquin\, The Vogel\, and Hamilton Theatres and soloed with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra in a tribute to Paul McCartney. She has presented tribute shows including Songbird\, The Best of Bonnie Raitt\, Broadway and Beyond\, and Decades of Divas. For Three American Troubadours\, she is working with her husband\, Academy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Franke Previte\, co-writer of the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing. \nAlice Leon has a very melodic\, tuneful\, and “hooky” approach to pop/rock and adult contemporary music. Her direct influences have ranged from Carly Simon\, Carole King\, and the Beatles to Sheryl Crow. In addition to being a supreme vocalist\, Alice Leon plays guitar and keyboards. She attracted attention when she made a guest appearance on the soap\, The Guiding Light\, playing a wedding singer and performing The Guiding Light’s theme song. \nJames Gedeon began performing in New York’s Greenwich Village in the late 1980s in storied venues including The Bitter End and Village Gate. He has opened for musical acts that include America\, The Marshall Tucker Band\, Livingstone Taylor\, Kenny Loggins\, Vanessa Williams\, and comedians Jerry Seinfeld\, Dana Carvey\, and Jay Leno. He has shared the stage at private events with Billy Joel\, Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Pat Monahan of Train\, and Phoebe Snow.
