SUMMARY:Seagrass Matting Volunteer Event
DESCRIPTION:Help us create seagrass mats that will be used to restore seagrass meadows in the Indian River Lagoon. This project is an integral part of our FOSTER (Florida Oceanographic Seagrass Training Education Restoration) program. We will be attaching seagrass fragments to pre-cut burlap mats. No experience is needed but must have nimble fingers. This event is outdoors in our Group Pavilion. Wear clothes that can get a bit wet and dirty\, shoes\, and please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Please note the minimum age for this event is 15 years old. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Participants aged 16-17 need to have signed FOS waivers if participating without a parent/guardian. Contact Rosemary at rbadger@floridaocean.org to get these waivers emailed. \nSpace is limited for this event. \nRegistration is required to participate in this event.

Check-in at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center \nWe’ll begin at the Coastal Center with a brief welcome before heading out together for a short beach walk to collect plastic pollution along our shoreline at Stuart Beach. After the short cleanup\, we’ll return to the Coastal Center for a guided discussion on what we found\, the broader impacts of plastic pollution\, and most importantly how you can take meaningful action as an advocate. \nThis event is designed to move beyond awareness and into action.
