SUMMARY:A.C.T. Studio Theatre presents the Romantic Comedy "6 Rms Riv Vu" by Bob Randall
DESCRIPTION:If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted comedy\, step into the world of ‘70s New York City and an apartment for rent on Manhattan’s prestigious Riverside Drive. The title “6 Rms Riv Vu\,” written by Bob Randall\, is meant as the real estate ad for this coveted six-room apartment. The river view is up for debate\, but the sweetness of this urban romantic comedy is not. \n“6 Rms Riv Vu” is a charming look at ‘70s culture through the eyes of two strangers\, a man and a woman\, who wind up spending the night together after being locked in the vacant apartment—a storyline only possible before cell phones. Both married\, he’s a frustrated advertising copywriter and she’s a bored housewife worried that life is passing her by. The couple may be an unlikely pair\, but put a man and a woman in private\, close proximity for an extended period of time and sexual or even romantic sparks could begin to fly. \nThe night brings smart\, funny banter and a raft of laugh-out-loud one-liners a la Neil Simon. Yet there is also poignancy beneath the flirtations. The play’s success on Broadway was followed with a TV special starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. \nSome call this play a forgotten gem. Others say it’s a once contemporary play that’s now a fascinating time capsule. Either way\, one thing has not changed: opposites still attract and romance still abounds. \nThis Manhattan apartment will be on stage at A.C.T. Studio Theatre weekends April 10 – 26: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.\, Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For tickets and information\, visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Tickets are $28.
A.C.T. Studio Theatre\, a nonprofit theater\, is located in the Cedar Pointe Plaza\, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd.\, Stuart.

SUMMARY:Four-time Tony Nominee Comedy/Drama "Bus Stop" by William Inge
DESCRIPTION:January is the perfect time of year for A.C.T. Studio Theatre to present a story about a blizzard. It was a snowstorm that stranded a bus full of passengers at a Kansas diner in 1955. Movie buffs may remember the romantic comedy of the same name starring Marilyn Monroe. “Bus Stop” by William Inge was a four-time Tony nominee\, including Best Play. The comedy/drama blends themes of love\, loneliness\, and self-discovery with witty dialogue\, quirky characters and humorous situations. \nInto the quiet unassuming Kansas diner one night files an array of characters stepping off a Topeka-bound Greyhound bus stuck there because of the blizzard. There were depths of snow—but also depths to be uncovered within this motley crew: a brash cowboy (romantically pursuing a nightclub singer against her wishes)\, a cynical alcoholic ex-professor\, a kindly ranch hand\, and a bus driver who’s seen it all. Then there’s the weathered diner owner\, her naïve waitress\, and the town’s sheriff who pops in to keep a close eye on things. \nPlaywright William Inge\, considered a giant among the likes of Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller\, is known as an insightful chronicler of human behavior. He wrote of people struggling to connect—to themselves\, to each other\, to the place their lives had become. In “Bus Stop” he masterfully weaves comedy into its drama\, using the forced togetherness of snowbound strangers in the Kansas diner to reveal vulnerabilities\, spark fleeting romances\, and create humor through witty banter and awkward flirtations. \nCome visit this Kansas “Bus Stop” as the passengers forge genuine connections with each other and possibly find a better way forward. Performances of William Inge’s play will be on stage at A.C.T. Studio Theatre weekends Jan. 9 – 25. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For tickets and information\, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Tickets are $28. A.C.T.
SUMMARY:Christmas Play "Greetings!" by Tom Dudzick
DESCRIPTION:SHOW DATES: NOV. 21\, 22\, 23\, 28\, 29\, 30; DEC. 5\, 6\, 7\nFRIDAYS & SATURDAYS AT 8:00 P.M.\, SUNDAYS AT 3:00 P.M. \nA.C.T. Studio Theatre opens the Christmas season with a lighthearted holiday favorite. “Greetings!” by Tom Dudzick is an optimistic\, heartwarming and humorous play about a family experiencing a miracle—which they sorely need. The comedy evolves into a charming\, life-affirming testament about the human spirit\, and about finding the ability to love oneself in order to love others. \n“Greetings!” was first produced off-Broadway at the John Houseman Theatre starring Darren McGavin 35 years ago\, and it has been a holiday favorite ever since. Sometimes referred to as “the Catholic Neil Simon\,” Tom Dudzick similarly uses comedy to explore the lives and relationships of Catholic families. The story revolves around Andy and his sweet Catholic mother\, a sour Catholic father\, and an intellectually disabled brother. When Andy brings his Jewish atheist fiancée home to meet the folks on Christmas Eve\, the sparks fly.\n“Greetings!” gives the audience much to reflect on when it comes to issues that families often face. But build in comical moments and a Christmas miracle\, and you’ve got an entertaining and thought-provoking play that will be long remembered. The thorniest of life’s moments can be navigated if there is love. \nCome for the gentle laughs\, a few surprises and a delightful ending. Carry away the message of love\, optimism and perhaps the possibility of a miracle or two. “Greetings!” will put you in the mood for the holidays.\nPerformances of Tom Dudzick’s “Greetings!” will be on stage at A.C.T. Studio Theatre weekends Nov. 21 to Dec 7. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For tickets and information\, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Tickets are $28.
