World Oceans Day, created to honor, protect, and conserve the world’s oceans, provides a unique opportunity to take personal and community action to preserve the ocean and its resources. “New England Fish Market and Restaurant has been a great partner for many years and a wonderful supporter of our mission to inspire environmental stewardship of Florida’s coastal ecosystems through education, research and advocacy,” says Mark Perry, Executive Director of the Florida Oceanographic Society.
New England Fish Market and Restaurant has been supporting Florida Oceanographic Society since 2005 as a part of their business partner program. They have also participated in the Society’s FLOOR (Florida Oceanographic Oyster Restoration) Program since 2010. Through the FLOOR Program, oyster shells are collected, dried out, bagged, and deployed into the Indian River Lagoon to establish new reefs and restore important oyster habitats in local waters. Partners like New England Fish Market and Restaurant provide the basis for oyster growth and restoration while saving tons of shell from local landfills.
