DESCRIPTION:Singer/songwriter Edwin McCain had his major-label breakout with his album\, Honor Among Thieves and he became a Top 40 star with chart-topping singles like “I’ll Be” and “I Couldn’t Ask for More.” The latter was featured on the soundtrack for the 1999 film Message in a Bottle\, and five of his 11 albums reached the Billboard 200. More recently\, audiences may know him from his “breathtaking” experience performing hit songs while disguised as “Nessy\,” the Loch Ness Monster\, during a run to the “Final Five” on the hit show\, The Masked Singer. \nThe Greenville\, South Carolina native sang in the church choir and was in the band in high school. In a 2023 interview with The Greenville Journal\, he explained that while he tried college\, music was his passion. “I was bussing at a Mexican restaurant during the Spoleto Festival in Charleston and the manager said he’d pay me $75 and feed me if I’d play on their deck. I thought I was rich! I dropped out of college the next day. I put a band together and we started opening for Hootie (and the Blowfish).” \nWhen Atlantic Records signed Hootie\, McCain came along for the ride. When his song\, “I’ll Be\,” was played during the final episode of Dawson’s Creek\, his career was launched\, but he wasn’t ready for the fame. The life of a rock star didn’t suit him\, and he found his niche not with big labels\, but as an independent artist. He is proud of the longevity of his career and still tours extensively. Recently\, he had the honor of playing The Grand Ole Opry\, a thrill he shared with his family\, and in 2025\, he released Lucky\, his first full studio album in 15 years. The album’s 10 tracks span blues\, rock\, soul\, and folk influences and reflect his musical roots while embracing modern inspirations\, including an electronic edge on the song “Empire.” \nThe New York Times called McCain “a great American romantic\,” and he continues to connect with fans through his music and TikTok videos\, where his witty\, self-deprecating humor\, often at the expense of his exasperated daughter\, has won over a new generation of fans. A podcast based on his TikTok life and more touring are in his future\, but he’s not fazed. “I found myself in this sweet spot doing this for 35 years\,” he said. “And if I end up playing for tourists on a deck in Hilton Head one day? That would be OK\, too.” \nMcCain would just think he’d been extremely Lucky.

DESCRIPTION:Pat Travers is a musician’s musician. Paul Gilbert of Mr. Big has called the guitarist a “rock god” and Kirk Hammett of Metallica calls him “one of my favorite guitar players.” \nHis many fans agree. Known as “Hammer Heads\,” they follow The Pat Travers Band as it tours the U.S. and Europe\, playing more than 150 dates a year with their high energy and blistering fretwork. The band that often opened for Foghat and Rush is now made up of Travers on guitar and vocals\, David Pastorius on bass and vocals\, and Dave Abbruzzese on drums. \nTravers was born and raised in Toronto\, and he has said that Jimi Hendrix was an influence\, as was seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan when he was nine. In an interview with Radio Townsquare Media\, he said that hearing the four musicians set him on his career path. \nKnown for a blues-rock fusion sound\, the band had hits like “Snortin’ Whiskey\,” which appeared in the movie Sideways\, “Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights\,)” “Crash & Burn\,” and “I La La La Love You\,” which was featured in the movie Valley Girls. \nTravers is not only a prolific live performer. His discography covers an amazing 48 years\, from his eponymous 1967 album\, Pat Travers\, to 2024’s Live ‘N Loaded ’84. It’s an astonishing body of work. \nTravers lives in central Florida and is a Black Belt in karate. His band members live in the Melbourne\, Florida area\, as well. \nThe musician has not forgotten where he came from. When told by an interviewer that it was a privilege to talk to him\, Travers replied\, “I’m just a regular guy who plays the guitar and sings.” \nCome hear the “regular guy” and his hot band play and sing. You’ll think they’re anything but ordinary and you may well leave a “Hammer Head.”

DESCRIPTION:The musical roots of Firefall run deep into the fertile soil of American rock and folk rock. In more than 40 years of making music\, Firefall has distinguished itself as one of the top bands in the Americana genre. The band helped spearhead the birth and growth of the country rock and folk rock sound of the 1970s and still stands as one of the few remaining torchbearers for harmony-laden rock. It transcends and embraces many labels: rock\, soft rock\, country rock\, contemporary country\, easy listening and Americana. \nThe band got its start in Boulder\, Colorado in 1974\, when lead guitarist and vocalist Jock Bartley joined forces with Rick Roberts and others from the legendary Gram Parsons band. After bassist Mark Andes and guitarist Larry Burnett joined\, the new band needed a name. It was called Firefall\, a name Roberts is said to have come up with after seeing the Yosemite Firefall annual event at Yosemite National Park. With its deep roots in Colorado\, Firefall was one of the first bands to bring the creative and musical richness of the Rocky Mountain area to the forefront of the industry. \nFirefall went on to earn two platinum and three gold albums with hits like “You Are the Woman\,” “Just Remember I Love You\,” “Strange Way\,” “Cinderella\,” “Mexico\,” and “Call on Me.” They shared stages with other top bands of the day\, including Fleetwood Mac\, The Doobie Brothers\, The Beach Boys\, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Chicago. \nLead guitarist and singer/songwriter Jock Bartley was the common thread through the decades and during periods of changing personnel. For Barkley\, the band’s co-founder\, Firefall has presented the opportunity to make quality music over the course of four decades. It also represents a personal\, heartfelt commitment to maintaining the tradition of the contemporary musical genre he and his peers helped create. \nFirefall has nurtured its faithful and growing audiences through live performances\, which attract new generations of fans. With a wealth of old and new songs\, Firefall demonstrates the depth and diversity of the band’s lyrical and musical excellence. The tight harmonies and intricate vocal arrangements are a fresh reminder of what melodic music is all about. The response to the solos and extended “jams” on concerts brings fun and spontaneity to a Firefall show. SUMMARY:An Evening with Coco Montoya
DESCRIPTION:When your teacher and mentor is iconic blues guitarist Albert Collins\, you listen. That’s what guitar virtuoso and soul-deep singer Coco Montoya did when Collins told him to “Just play what you feel\, be real about it and enjoy yourself.” In a career spanning more than five decades\, Montoya has followed that advice. Self-taught and left-handed\, he learned from Collins and John Mayall while putting his own stamp on every song. \nHenry “Coco” Montoya was born in Santa Monica\, California into a working-class family. Growing up\, he listened to his parents’ collection of big band\, jazz\, salsa\, doo-wop and rock ‘n’ roll. His first love was the drums\, and he got his first set at 11. He got a guitar two years later. “I’m sure the Beatles had something to do with this\,” he said. “I wanted to make notes as well as beats.” \nGuitar\, though\, remained Montoya’s secondary instrument\, turning his love for drumming into a profession and playing in area rock bands while in his teens. He was becoming an in-demand drummer and then\, in 1969\, he saw Albert King open for Creedence Clearwater Revival/Iron Butterfly. He was transformed. “After King got done playing\, my life was changed\,” Montoya said. “When he played\, the music went right into my soul. It grabbed me so emotionally that I had tears welling up in my eyes. Nothing had ever affected me to this level. He showed me what music and playing the blues were all about. I knew that was what I wanted to do.” \nIn the mid-1970s\, Montoya had a chance meeting with Albert Collins. “Albert was coming through Los Angeles and needed to borrow my drum set\, which I left at the club where he was going to be playing\,” he said. “I went down to see his show that night and it just tore my head off. The thing that I had seen and felt with Albert King came pouring back on me when I saw Albert Collins.” \nCollins hired Montoya as his drummer and mentored him on the guitar. “We’d sit in hotel rooms for hours and play guitar\,” Montoya said. “He’d play that beautiful rhythm of his and just have me play along. He was like a father to me. Collins called Montoya “his son” and Montoya learned everything he could from the man known as the “Master of the Telecaster.” \nNeeding a more regular paycheck\, Montoya took a job tending bar and jamming on weekends. Legendary British musician John Mayall heard him play Otis Rush’s “All Your Love (I Miss Loving).” Soon after\, Mayall asked Montoya to join the famous Bluesbreakers\, filling the shoes of previous Bluesbreakers guitarists like Eric Clapton\, Peter Green and Mick Taylor. For the next 10 years\, Montoya toured the world and recorded with Mayall on seven albums. \nMontoya’s debut as a bandleader came in 1995 with Gotta Mind to Travel. The album became an instant fan favorite and made it clear that Montoya ranked among the best players on the contemporary scene. Two more albums quickly followed. \nIn 2000\, Montoya’s album\, Suspicion\, exploded onto the scene and his fan base grew exponentially. After two more highly successful albums: 2002’s Can’t Look Back and 2007’s Dirty Deal on Alligator\, Montoya signed with Ruf Records\, cutting several albums. He returned to Alligator in 2017 with Hard Truth and in 2019 with Coming in Hot. The UK’s Blues Matters commented that “Montoya unleashes one career-topping performance after another.” \nHis latest album\, Writing on the Wall\, features 13 tracks filled with Montoya’s fierce guitar and passion-laden vocals. It is also the first to feature his long-time road band. Despite his busy recording schedule\, Montoya remains a “road warrior\,” touring virtually non-stop around the world. He has a reputation for his live performances\, with Billboard saying\, “In a world of blues guitar pretenders\, Coco Montoya is the real McCoy. He exudes power and authority. Be prepared to get scorched by the real thing.” \nCome play with fire.

SUMMARY:Atlanta Rhythm Section
DESCRIPTION:Often described as a more radio-friendly version of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers\, the Atlanta Rhythm Section was one of the Southern Rock bands to hit the upper reaches of the charts during the late ‘70s. The original members of Atlanta Rhythm Section came together as the house musicians at the famed Studio One in Doraville\, Georgia\, a recording home to such country rock greats as Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Dicky Betts\, and 38 Special. They would play as session musicians on albums for other groups three or four nights a week and work on their own songs on their off time. From that start\, they went on to record 15 albums and play to tens of thousands of fans at festivals and arenas earning a place as one of the top acts in country rock and as carriers of the “Southern Rock” mantle. \nThat said\, Atlanta Rhythm Section was never about a title or label. Their sound was musically diverse\, and they had hits with a softer pop flavor with a sound that was uniquely their own. They were as influenced by music coming from England as from Southern rockers and shared musical stylings with The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. They were excellent musicians who tried to stretch themselves – think Steely Dan or Little Feat. \nChampagne Jam\, released in 1978\, was Atlanta Rhythm Section’s breakthrough album\, winning both critical and popular acclaim for the band. Eight songs were showcased with the smooth pop production the group had been refining for years and continued the pattern of blending beautiful melodies with shifting tempos. The album hit the Top 10 and quickly went gold\, and the title track\, “I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight\,” was a Top 20 hit. It was\, however\, “Imaginary Lover” that really put the band on the map\, reaching Number 7 on the charts. The band rode that wave of success\, producing more gold and platinum albums with more Top 40 singles\, including “So into You\,” “Do It or Die\,” “Spooky\,” and “Doraville.” They toured continuously and gained a reputation for incredible live performances. Today\, they still maintain a busy touring schedule and participate in Rock Legends Cruises\, which benefits the Native American Heritage Association. \nNow\, more than 50 years after it all began\, you can call what they play Southern rock or classic rock or just great music. The name doesn’t matter\, so don’t let it bother you (tonight).
