SUMMARY:International Coastal Cleanup at Blowing Rocks Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning shoreline cleanup event to celebrate International Coastal Cleanup Day on at the preserve! Plastic pollution is a massive problem for our ocean\, but even small actions can make a big difference. Every bottle\, every straw\, every piece of trash you clean up can lead to a cleaner\, healthier ocean. \nThe International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is spearheaded by the Ocean Conservancy and it is the most recognized cleanup event in the world. Thanks to millions of volunteers around the world\, the ICC has become a beacon of hope\, leading and inspiring action in support of our ocean. Since its beginning\, more than 19 million volunteers have collected more than 400 million pounds of trash. \nJoin us to enjoy a stroll in the outdoors through the trails and beaches of Blowing Rocks Preserve to collect marine debris that has been washed ashore and trash left behind. Volunteers will be instructed by The Nature Conservancy’s preserve staff upon arrival and given collection supplies. \n*FREE t-shirts will be offered to participating volunteers\, while supplies last\, in collaboration with Keep Martin Beautiful.\nPlease note: volunteer shirts will be shared first come\, first serve.\n*We highly recommend downloading the Clean Swell App to report your marine debris data for scientists to use around the globe! \nPrepare to spend your time in the sun walking on uneven terrain\, and keep in mind your feet always have the potential to get wet. Please note the sand gets hot. Please come prepared with sun protection\, a reusable water bottle\, and bug spray. \nFREE volunteer opportunity\, welcome to all! Advance registration is required\, but walk-ins are welcome if supplies remain. Registration closes on Thursday\, September 17 at 11:59pm EST.\nThis is a great way to gain service hours for school\, scouts\, or other organizational requirements.\n*Light to moderate physical activity.\n*Recommended for ages 6+\, all youth under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. \nQuestions or concerns? Email us at VisitBRP@TNC.org or call us at 561-744-6668.\nTo learn more about Blowing Rocks Preserve\, visit nature.org/blowingrocks\n______________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nBlowing Rocks is grateful to collaborate with Keep Martin Beautiful towards Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup efforts. SUMMARY:Neil Simon's "Fools"
DESCRIPTION:Neil Simon’s “Fools” is a boisterously lighthearted comic fable that has grown into a beloved staple of regional theater. Set in a fictional Ukrainian village cursed with chronic stupidity\, this charming and whimsical family-friendly play provides a wonderful\, fun afternoon or evening of theater.\nAn enthusiastic young schoolteacher\, Leon Steponovich Tolchinsky\, arrives in the isolated Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov. He has been hired to educate Sophia Zubritsky\, the 19-year-old daughter of the local doctor. Leon falls in love with Sophia the exact moment he meets her\, despite her extreme lack of intelligence.\nLeon quickly discovers that the entire village has been under a curse of “chronic stupidity” for 200 years. Because of the curse\, Sophia is so intellectually challenged that she only recently learned how to sit down. Furthermore\, Leon is told that if he cannot educate her within 24 hours\, he will also become a victim of the curse and lose his own intelligence.\nDespite Leon’s many dilemmas\, the play has a kind of sweetness to it. We laugh at the townsfolk\, but it’s clear that they want to be loved. The characters wind up gaining our affection and even reach out to the audience for it. The story suggests that love has the power to break even the most stubborn of psychological barriers.\nBut “Fools” is fun from start to finish\, and it’s hopeful—everything we need right now. Come see Neil Simon’s mastery of wordplay and energetic dialogue shine at A.C.T. Studio Theatre weekends Sept. 4 – 20. For tickets and information\, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Tickets are $28; please call the box office for student and child discounts. A.C.T. Studio Theatre\, a nonprofit theater\, is located in the Cedar Pointe Plaza\, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd.\, Stuart.

SUMMARY:The Notorious Ashley Gang Exhibit 1910-1924
DESCRIPTION:PERMANENT EXHIBIT \nJohn Ashley was an American outlaw\, bank robber\, bootlegger\, and occasional pirate active in southern Florida during the 1910s and 1920s. \nBetween 1915 and 1924\, the self-styled “King of the Everglades” or “Swamp Bandit” operated from various hideouts in the Florida Everglades. His gang robbed nearly $1 million from at least 40 banks while at the same time hijacking numerous shipments of illegal whiskey being smuggled into the state from the Bahamas. Indeed\, Ashley’s gang was so effective that rum-running on the Florida coast virtually ceased while the gang was active. His two-man raid on the West End in the Bahamas in 1924 marked the first time in over a century that American pirates had attacked a British Crown colony. \nAmong poor Florida “crackers”\, he was considered a folk hero who represented a symbol of resistance to bankers\, lawmen and wealthy landowners. Ashley’s activities also hindered Prohibition bootleggers in major cities\, whose importation of foreign liquor undermined local moonshiners. Even the newspapers of the era frequently compared him to Jesse James. Almost every major crime in Florida was blamed on Ashley and his gang and one Florida official called him the greatest threat to the state since the Seminole Wars. \nHis near 13-year feud with Palm Beach County Sheriff George B. Baker ended in the death of Ashley and his three lieutenants in 1924. \nAll permanent exhibits are included with Elliott Museum Regular Admission

With the push of a button\, the system springs into action\, retrieving a gleaming automobile and rotating it into view — an experience that turns history into theater. \nWHY IT’S UNIQUE\nFirst museum in the U.S. to integrate an advanced industrial-automation system into its public galleries.\nMaximizes space to display more of our automotive treasures while keeping them preserved.\nInteractive experience with kiosks\, curated media\, and storytelling that connects each vehicle to a moment in automotive history. \nA COLLECTION THAT MOVES YOU\nThe racking system is just part of our diverse transportation collection\, which also includes:\nOver 90 classic cars and trucks — with 50-55 featured in the automated system.\nVintage motorcycles\, including a rare 1915 Harley-Davidson.\nEarly bicycles honoring Sterling Elliott’s inventive spirit.\nA full-scale replica of the 1911 Hugh Willoughby Pelican hydro-aeroplane. \nThe Wheels of Change is more than a car exhibit — it’s a journey through the history of innovation\, from the first turn of the crank to the precision of modern robotics. Come see how far we’ve traveled… and where the road leads next. \nAll permanent exhibits are included with Elliott Museum Regular Admission
