DESCRIPTION:Neil Simon’s “Fools” is a boisterously lighthearted comic fable that has grown into a beloved staple of regional theater. Set in a fictional Ukrainian village cursed with chronic stupidity\, this charming and whimsical family-friendly play provides a wonderful\, fun afternoon or evening of theater.\nAn enthusiastic young schoolteacher\, Leon Steponovich Tolchinsky\, arrives in the isolated Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov. He has been hired to educate Sophia Zubritsky\, the 19-year-old daughter of the local doctor. Leon falls in love with Sophia the exact moment he meets her\, despite her extreme lack of intelligence.\nLeon quickly discovers that the entire village has been under a curse of “chronic stupidity” for 200 years. Because of the curse\, Sophia is so intellectually challenged that she only recently learned how to sit down. Furthermore\, Leon is told that if he cannot educate her within 24 hours\, he will also become a victim of the curse and lose his own intelligence.\nDespite Leon’s many dilemmas\, the play has a kind of sweetness to it. We laugh at the townsfolk\, but it’s clear that they want to be loved. The characters wind up gaining our affection and even reach out to the audience for it. The story suggests that love has the power to break even the most stubborn of psychological barriers.\nBut “Fools” is fun from start to finish\, and it’s hopeful—everything we need right now. Join our park staff for Guided Hikes every Friday! \n\nEach hike is guided by our knowledgeable AmeriCorps and park staff\, so come prepared to discover the plants\, wildlife\, and stories that make JDSP so special. \n\nBring water\, sunscreen\, and your curiosity — these hikes are perfect for families\, visitors\, and locals looking to connect with nature. \n\nMeet at the Kimbell Center at 2 pm every Friday. Walk is approximately 1 mile. All skill levels are welcome. Well behaved leashed dogs are also welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Neil Simon’s “Fools” is a boisterously lighthearted comic fable that has grown into a beloved staple of regional theater. Set in a fictional Ukrainian village cursed with chronic stupidity\, this charming and whimsical family-friendly play provides a wonderful\, fun afternoon or evening of theater.\nAn enthusiastic young schoolteacher\, Leon Steponovich Tolchinsky\, arrives in the isolated Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov. He has been hired to educate Sophia Zubritsky\, the 19-year-old daughter of the local doctor. Leon falls in love with Sophia the exact moment he meets her\, despite her extreme lack of intelligence.\nLeon quickly discovers that the entire village has been under a curse of “chronic stupidity” for 200 years. Because of the curse\, Sophia is so intellectually challenged that she only recently learned how to sit down. Furthermore\, Leon is told that if he cannot educate her within 24 hours\, he will also become a victim of the curse and lose his own intelligence.\nDespite Leon’s many dilemmas\, the play has a kind of sweetness to it. We laugh at the townsfolk\, but it’s clear that they want to be loved. The characters wind up gaining our affection and even reach out to the audience for it. The story suggests that love has the power to break even the most stubborn of psychological barriers.\nBut “Fools” is fun from start to finish\, and it’s hopeful—everything we need right now. Thank you! \nAbout The International Coastal Cleanup\nThe International Coastal Cleanup is a popular\, fun and highly visible event in Martin County. Held on the third Saturday of September each year and spearheaded by the Ocean Conservancy\, the International Coastal Cleanup is the most recognized cleanup event in the world. \nHundreds of thousands of people across the globe come together on the same day to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways. The event creates international visibility\, raises public awareness about poor waste management practices\, and inspires people to become better stewards of our environment. \nThe purpose of the cleanup is to engage people around the world\, to identify the sources of the litter\, and to change the behaviors that cause pollution. \nKeep Martin Beautiful is the local coordinator of the International Cleanup. Each year\, thousands of volunteers in Martin County beautify our beaches and coastlines by removing unsightly debris. We are also able to help protect birds and marine life by reducing the likelihood that these innocent creatures will become injured or entangled in plastics or ingest deadly debris.
