The Wailers are reggae royalty. They are that rare group of musicians who have earned a place in music history with culture-defining music that embodies the spirit of the ‘70s reggae movement. Under the direction of Aston Barrett, Jr, son of the legendary “Familyman, The Wailers continue to preserve the legacy and sound of Bob Marley, keeping his music alive, as he requested “by keeping The Wailers together.”
The songs of Bob Marley introduced the world to reggae and remain the gold standard for the genre. From 1973-1980, Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded, toured and performed before millions of fans around the world. Bob Marley & The Wailers have sold more than 100 million recordings worldwide, including 1977’s Exodus, named Song of the Millennium by the BBC. Spin magazine listed the group at Number 4 on the “50 Greatest Bands of all Time” and The New York Times named Bob Marley the most significant musician of the 20th century. These accolades were made possible by the creative, timeless, and distinctive music, lyrics and production of the incomparable Wailers musicians.
Today, the legendary Wailers are still helmed by Aston Barrett Jr., who received a 2017 Grammy certificate as co-producer with Damian Marley for the track, “The Struggle Discontinues,” featured on the album, Stony Hill. The album won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. He is the co-owner of BAD Lions Productions, which operates a studio in Pompano Beach, Florida. Barrett can be heard playing guitar, drums, bass and organ for Stephen Marley, Junior Reed, Julian Marley, Kwame Bediaco, Aka Beka, Jessee Royale, Reggae Force and more.
In 2022, The Wailers introduced their album, One World, produced by the legendary Emilio Estefan. The first single, “One World, One Prayer,” is a powerful anthem of unity, love, and inclusivity, with a blend of Jamaica reggae and urban Latin sounds. Featured are Farruko, Jamaican icon Shaggy, and members of the Marley family. One World, the band’s first recording in 25 years, earned a 2021 Grammy nomination.
For the 2023 tour, The Wailers continue to evolve. They’ve added vocalist Mitchell Brunings, who has made a name for himself with a soulful voice and powerful stage presence that adds a fresh, contemporary flair to the reggae sound.
The Wailers are also working on a new album, which is set to be released in the second half of 2023. Produced by Emilio Estefan, it will be a fresh take on a classic sound, with new songs that will surely become a part of The Wailers’ legend.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see one of the greatest reggae bands of all time in concert. Be ready to be transported to a world of love, unity, and good vibes.
