Do you remember when the Happy Hour meant a lounge act to enjoy while you sipped your favorite drink? The Cocktail Cabaret takes its audience back to the time of the Happy Hour lounge act in Las Vegas with a show that is upbeat, stylish, intimate musical cabaret, reminiscent of vintage Vegas. The musical revue features a combination of live, original music and standards, performed by four-Broadway-caliber singers from the Great White Way and America’s Got Talent and a four-piece band led by concert pianist Philip Fortenberry, who performed as Liberace’s hand and body double in the HBO movie, Beyond the Candelabra.
Fortenberry is the co-producer and pianist of the show, which debuted in 2017 at Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesar’s Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. The pianist, who holds a Master of Music Degree in classical piano performance from New Jersey City University, was an adjunct faculty member at the Steinhardt School of Education at NYU and continued private piano studies at Juilliard. His “flying fingers” have performed for 10 Broadway shows and eight national tours, including Cats, Ragtime, and The Lion King.
In addition to Fortenberry and the band, the cast includes Niki Scalera, a Broadway veteran who performed as Penny in Hairspray, Jane in Disney’s Tarzan, and in Neil Simon’s Jake’s Women. Maren Wade was featured on America’s Got Talent and starred as Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades: The Parody, at Bally’s. Eric Jordan Young is a quadruple threat as a singer, director, choreographer and playwright. He received the Broadway World Award in 2011 and 2012 for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in VEGAS! The Show. Ron Remke is a frequent soloist with symphonies throughout North America and toured with Kiss Me Kate. His debut CD is a collection of Broadway classics.
The singers and band aim to please with crowd favorites that include songs like “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “It’s Now or Never,” “Scotch and Soda,” “Red Red Wine,” “That’s Life,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and, in tribute to their roots, “Viva Las Vegas.”
Get a cocktail, come into the theater and relax. It’s Happy Hour.
