Does this park’s name have anything to do with these ancient creatures? Learn some alligator secrets and do the “swamp walk” through Halpatiokee Regional Park. With 65 acres of active park land surrounded by approximately 500 acres of wetland preserve area, Halpatiokee is home to the longnose gar, shiners, several species of sunfish, cooters, river otters and of course, alligators. Halpatioke is conveniently located at 8303 SW Lost River Rd in Stuart. Hikers should meet at the covered pavilion for a 10 a.m. start.
