An unforgettable evening of classical guitar, poetry, and art!
An evening of classical guitar and romantic poetry with a backdrop of 19th-century Russian masterpiece paintings will enthrall and entertain guests Saturday, March 9th, 7:00-9:00pm at the Elliott. “The Music of Poetry” is an original work created by Juan Pena, Cuban born, classical guitarist who holds a Master of Music doctorate from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Doctoral Cognate in Musicology from the University of Miami. He has won several national competitions, was a Guitar Ensemble of Havana member, and was a solo concert guitarist with the Concert Association “Antonia Maria Romeu” of Cuba until 1996 when he arrived in the United States. Currently he is the director of Classical guitar studies at FAU and Palm Beach State College teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. For the last seven years, Dr. Pena has been active with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society in Stuart.

Joining him will be Belarus born, Ally Kaykov, pen name Alla Maktina who was recognized early for her writing talent, winning numerous local and regional awards. Growing up, she was very passionate about literature, graduating from the Belarusian University of Culture and Arts with a degree in Library Science. Her academic excellence was rewarded with a unique internship at the National Library of the Republic of Belarus, including access to its collection of old printed and rare books dating from the 14th Century. She earned her BA in Education and Russian Literature from Brooklyn College and achieved her Master’s Degree at Rutgers.

She has written four books of poetry, Crystal Shallow Waters, Disrobing, Flooded Grass, and Piercing Happiness. Traditionally, literary works and visual arts influence musical compositions, but it inspired her to write poetry inspired by music. Alla’s readings will be a perfect complement to the beautiful music of Juan and the masterpiece paintings that will provide a mesmerizing background.

What a unique evening it will be! Classical guitar, original poetry read by the poet with art masterpieces as a background!
