George Rogers Presents at the February Native Plant Society Meeting

Join the Martin County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society on Tuesday, February 4th at IRSC, Chastain Campus, on Salerno Road in Stuart for our Monthly Meeting. Doors open at 6:30 pm. This event is FREE & open to the public.

George Rogers, one of our most popular and knowledgeable speakers, will be presenting on the topic, Plants that Piggyback. Airplants have adapted to life out on a limb. How do they manage without roots in the ground? George Rogers will explore the mechanics and interrelationships of tillandsias, epiphytic ferns, mosses, liverworts, and lichens.

Rogers is an informative and entertaining speaker. Along with photographer John Bradford he writes a blog called Treasure Coast Natives. Rogers earned a Ph.D. in botany from the University of Michigan and did postdoctoral work at Harvard. He specializes in plant identification and classification and serves as chairman of the Horticulture Department at Palm Beach State College.
