When you are a writer, poet, comedian, or actor who has not yet been “discovered”, you may not have many opportunities to hone or share your craft. Now, the 2nd and last Wednesday of every month, these various talents can be shared and enjoyed at NOTES MUSIC ROOM & WINE BAR on Colorado Avenue. OPEN MIC for Poets, Writers, Comedians, Actors, and all talent other than musicians begins at 6 PM and ends around 9 PM or later, depending on how many performers are present. (This means jugglers, magicians, ventriliquists, you name it!)
Why did NOTES owner create this event?
“Lots of places have Open Mic for musicians, and singers,” she explains. “Vocalists also have karaoke opportunities. But if you are a skit or improv actor, a comedian, or a writer, where can you perform, other than for your own friends and family? I wanted to give these talents a chance to shine, and grow.”
The bonus, of course, is that the performances not only help these individuals to practice and work on their material, they are also very entertaining for the audience. “When you allow yourself to listen, to stop chatting and just take in the words and actions of the performers, it is really special,” Priscilla shares. “The other night there was a hilariously funny older woman talking about dating at 70, and a poet who wrote about first love, lost love, and the passing of a spouse. Their material couldn’t have been more different. Yet the audience was moved by both of them, in different ways. It was a truly wonderful, special evening. An audience member suddenly announced that she’d like to sing/recite a Broadway piece, and she did a fantastic job!”
Open Mic Night for Poets, Writers, Comics & Actors is just one of many unique special events held at NOTES each month. Owner Priscilla strives to bring her customers music, entertainment, experiences and fun that isn’t commonly found.
No advance sign up required, just show up! Come perform or just come to be entertained!
