This holiday season, if you’re ready for a visit with the spirits from Charles Dickens’ well-loved classic story, you’ll enjoy “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play,” adapted for the stage by playwright Joe Landry with music by Kevin Connors. This delightful, family-friendly version will recreate for live audiences the high-wire, high-spirited energy of a ‘40s-era radio troupe, complete with music and atmospheric sound effects.
“A Christmas Carol” is probably the most famous Christmas story ever. First appearing almost two centuries ago as a novella written by Charles Dickens, it is the cautionary tale of an old man who has forgotten how to love—and even forgotten how to do the simplest acts of kindness and decency.
This famous Christmas story comes to life on the A.C.T. stage as an old-fashioned radio broadcast with vintage commercials for fruitcake (extra-fancy), sound effects and musical underscoring. A handful of actors portray dozens of characters as the familiar story unfolds: Three ghosts take Ebenezer Scrooge on a thrilling journey to teach him the true meaning of Christmas.
